Toddler Room

2 years to 3 years

Welcome to our vibrant Toddler Room, exclusively designed for children aged two to three years old. Our space is carefully crafted to foster exploration across the seven learning areas, both indoors and outdoors.

In the summer of 2022, based on invaluable feedback from children, practitioners, and parents, we merged our Toddler Room with our Preschool Room. This integration expanded the diversity within our seven learning areas and facilitated peer-driven learning, nurturing a flourishing environment for skill development. Concurrently, we embarked on our transition to the Curiosity Approach, creating a serene and inquisitive space for children to explore. These transformations have been immensely successful, receiving acclaim from practitioners, parents, and most importantly, our children, who now have greater access to diverse learning opportunities.

Operating with a maximum capacity of 12 toddlers and maintaining a 1:4 ratio with three dedicated practitioners, we currently have a team of four practitioners. This deliberate overstaffing reflects our commitment to ensuring the highest quality of care for your child, prioritising their well-being and growth at every moment.

Our dedicated Toddler Room Team comprises a room leader, practitioner, assistant practitioner, and playworker. You can discover more about each member on our “Meet Our Team” page. While we strive to maintain consistency, we acknowledge that staff changes may occur. Our management team collaborates closely within our rooms to ensure continuity and a nurturing environment for your child.

Post-lunch, our toddlers unwind in our specially designed sleep area, following the safer sleep guidance from the Lullaby Trust, allowing for a calm and safe restful time.

Our expansive, open-access garden fosters unbounded exploration for our toddlers and preschoolers, enabling them to delve into nature freely. Our Forest School sessions, alongside open access, provide ample opportunities for outdoor adventures and hands-on learning experiences.

Regular trips to local parks, lakes, and even visits to see sheep offer diverse experiences beyond our setting, expanding their horizons.

At mealtimes, we encourage the exploration of tastes and textures aligned with our nursery’s menu. We promote independence by involving children in setting the table and pouring their drinks. Mealtimes are joyful, social moments encouraging enriched learning experiences.

Transitioning to Semi-skimmed Milk (Green top) is encouraged by the time your child is two. We request clean, labelled water bottles for trips and promote self-service throughout the day.

Daily tooth-brushing routines introduce toddlers to dental care, emphasising its importance. We ensure regular nappy changes and have robust hygiene protocols in place for illness prevention and care.

Our collaboration with families begins from registration, fostering open communication about your child’s development, routines, and needs. Regular updates through face-to-face interactions and our family hub facilitate a seamless transition and promote your child’s confidence and security within our setting. We value your feedback and encourage ongoing consultations to continually enhance our service. Visit our Parent Partnership page for more information and links to recent consultations.
